After the attack by our enemies, I Amaryllius, was the lone survivor. I played dead after being knocked down by an enemy weapon and waited for the enemy to leave the area. I then got up and made my way across the carnage toward a small opening in the side of the mountain. I was so excited when I finally made it after struggling against my many wounds that I just dropped down in exhaustion once far enough inside. I wasn't interested in where I was and really didn't care to find out if any other creature might be there. I fell asleep for a few hours. Suddenly, a ghostly voice startled me and I awoke in fear. "Who's there?" I cried to the inner darkness. "Come forth and I will help you. I will light your way to my presence--I mean no harm." The voice seemed to be coming from a tunnel far below as suddenly a single stream of light burst forth. "Why should I trust you?" "You have no other choice. I must treat your wounds before they overpower you and cause you to die." I somehow felt that the voice spoke the truth, as after my sleep I still felt weak and there was this huge pain emanating from my midsection. Feeling I had nothing left to lose, I followed the light deeper into the cave. After what seemed like an eternity stumbling over rocks and crevices, I found the source of the light within a rounding chamber. A beautiful oversized gemstone sat on a rock structure that looked like a pedestal, but could have been part of a natural rock formation. That's when I found that it was the source of the voice. "Come forth and touch me--do not be afraid. I contain healing powers that come from the ancient times. Please, I wish to help you." I hesitated at first, but considering my wounds, it seemed like my only chance. I carefully made my way to the gem, slowly as my pain was increasing. By the time I reached it, I thought I would pass out. The pain was so great I nearly dropped to the floor, but I managed to touch it. I started to feel relief as warm, healing energies coursed throughout my being. When I finally let go, after fully being restored, there was a great light flash. The cave was not there anymore and I felt disoriented. Once I began to look around, I didn't feel so lost anymore. I was in my home at my home village. I looked around to find all my familiar belongings and the familiar four walls surrounding me. That's when I noticed it had followed me. Before I could speak at all, it began to pulse a bit, whereupon audible words could be heard once more. "I have come with you to your home. I shall protect your home and if you need healing once again, do not hestitate to return to me here and be made whole." Although a strange little gemstone, I was glad to have such a valuable object in my possesion. I hoped it would be useful to me for many years to come. |
